Latest Generation

2019-2024

The 2013 Altima was seen as a less impressive choice compared to its predecessors, offering a humdrum driving experience and ranking below many of its competitors. Recommended trims were the 2.5SV for a power driver's seat and blind-spot monitoring, and the 2.5SL and 3.5SL for advanced safety equipment. However, overall, this generation of the Altima was considered lackluster. The 2024 Altima received a mild freshening and expanded safety features. While it's considered an unremarkable midsize sedan, it offers a roomy cabin, good fuel economy, and user-friendly controls. The standard 2.5-liter engine provides decent acceleration, with an optional more powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine available. All-wheel drive is an option. The car achieves 31 mpg overall and is relatively quiet. The cabin and rear seat are spacious, but the car's low ride height can make entry and exit challenging. Standard safety features include AEB with pedestrian detection and blind-spot warning.

2007-2012

The 2007 redesign of the Altima brought improvements in ride quality and power, particularly with the four-cylinder engine. The sportier 3.5 SE model offered sharper handling but a stiffer ride. Interior quality improved, though the rear seat was less spacious. All models featured pushbutton keyless start, and the 2010 update made stability control standard.

2002-2006

During this period, the Altima aimed to compete with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry but fell short in several areas. Handling was less agile, the ride was busy, and the engine, while strong, was noisy. Front seats were too low, and rear seating was cramped. The Altima was redesigned in 1998 and slightly refreshed in 2000, but it remained a less desirable option in the family sedan category.
